Story

I´m 18 now and have been skateboarding about two and half years. I started skating in spring 2001, when I bought my first skateboard "Kryptonics". First I was practicing basics such as how to run-up, stopping and turning with a skateboard as well as do ollies.

I spend almost all my spare time to practicing. I usually skated on street near by my homeyard with my stepbrother Antti. There we were built low obstacles for skateboarding. I went in excess of a year and I was already learned many various of slides, grinds and flatland tricks. However soon it was coming winter and possibility to skateboarding started being quite scarce excluding our garage. There I had about 1,5 meter length and 2 meter width piece of plywood where I was practicing some flatland tricks. My principle was that I´m going to continue my hobby no matter the small space I have. So I just had to change style. What else than freestyle came to my mind first. I found lots of material about freestyle from books and internet, pictures, video clips, about freestyle history as well as good freestyle trick tips whose help me get started to freestyle. All I needed just a board and a small flat area that I was able to practice stationary tricks. I was progressing fast and begun understanding that freestyling is having a fun as well. I haven´t met any other such a sport in my life which is so creative and free that there isn't anyone telling you how something is supposed to do.

When it was coming to spring I get back out to skate. I was still mainly street skater, but I was also keep practicing freestyle, usually alone in secret. I always wanted to go show my new tricks for local skaters and abash them a little bit.

When it was coming to autumn, I was almost completely bored to street skating. Maybe the main reason was, because I was lonely skater and jumping to obstacles by alone was quite bleak activity so get into freestyle. Indeed I skate sometimes with my big brother Vesa who likes freestyle as well.

While I was searching facts about freestyle from internet, I found out this (http://www.reversefreestyle.com/discuss) current address "http://www.freestyleskateboard.com/f-forum" forum where are topics about freestyle and can discuss everything about freestyle and events and also share some trick tips with congenial people who are interested in freestyle skateboarding. Perhaps I wouldn't be never really interested in freestyle without f-forum.

I have compete once in Lahti Skate Arena at 6.9.2003 just for fun and although I didn't success well instead of I get lot of experiences. I´m just amateur, but however I think that skateboarding has been large positive impact on my life, in many ways. I would hope both more persons who get interested in freestyle skateboarding and skate industry to start promoting more freestyle as well in future.
